With Child
Over the years, the music of Elijah Jensen has come in many forms and under many names. Right now, he’s going by With Child. Regardless of moniker, all of Elijah’s music is formed deep within his gut and heart and has no choice, really, but to find its way out. Sometimes it has to claw its way out, in an energetic, sweaty fit, and sometimes it charms its way out, like an adorable eight year old getting out of going to school. Sometimes he plays full-band style and rocks crowds with the help of Andrew Hafner on bass and Otis Crook on drums, and other times he plays by himself and brings us to the verge of tears. It’s visceral, beautiful, and just a little unlike anything else out there, though he is influenced by Lambchop, Moondog, and maybe a little Jackson 5. His last record was 2005’s The Floating Parade, though he writes several dozen songs a month (only a slight exaggeration) so expect at least one record from him sooner rather than later.
